Wakanda Forever director reveals why the Avengers should be afraid of Namur

14 years after the Marvel Cinematic Universe began, Namor the Sub-Mariner will finally join the popular franchise. One of the oldest characters in the Marvel library, Namor has been a villain, a hero, and just about everything in between. When we meet the live version in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, he will act as an opponent of the Wakanda people, and this may eventually put him at odds with the Avengers. This is a struggle they might want to avoid, as Namor is unlike any other character we’ve seen in the MCU so far.

Talking to Marvel.comAnd the Black Panther: Wakanda Forever Writer and director Ryan Coogler spoke about Namor’s first appearance in the MCU, revealing why he’s such a terrifying antagonist.

“Introducing Namur to us was really an opportunity to introduce another politician, another sovereign ruler to a group of people who represented more than himself,” Kugler explained. “[There’s] Unmatched in terms of his abilities, the ability to breathe underwater, breathe at high altitudes and roam on land. He’s incredibly strong, as strong as a bull, and if he’s around enough water, he can be as strong as a hulk.”

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever Producer Nate Moore also spoke about Namor’s dangers, stating that he’s not fighting for global power or control. Namur simply wants to protect his people, and this makes him a powerful and focused enemy.

“He’s not interested in luring the world into power,” Moore said. “He’s not interested in money. He’s interested in protecting his people.” “And what is more altruistic than that?”

“This is a man who believes 100% that he is the hero in his story,” Moore continued. “He does not see himself as a villain because in Namor’s eyes he does what he does to protect people who have already made it through a tragic history.”

Tenoch Huerta plays MCU’s Namor, who many will recognize from his roles in them Narcos: Mexico And the Forever cleansing. He now has a chance to be one of the biggest characters in the MCU going forward.

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever It arrives in theaters November 11th.
