Google Stadia refunds are starting to appear, so keep an eye on your inbox

Google Stadia users should keep an eye on their email, as the company has begun processing refunds for games, add-ons, and more.

Google Stadia users received a huge shock at the end of September when the service announced that it would be shutting down. On the same day, it also announced that it will do right by customers and will display refunds for most purchases made directly from Google. Now, refunds are starting to appear, so keep an eye out for your inbox.

According to the official Stadia support pageRefunds are now processed automatically, as the company begins purchasing games, additional content, and any subscription fees purchased through the Stadia store. The company asks its customers to be patient while its procedures are going and states that it will not accept any requests at this time to expedite the refund. Furthermore, it stipulated that most refunds must be processed by January 18, 2023.

As for details, the company will automatically start refunding each transaction starting today to the original payment method used. If the payment cannot be refunded, Google will send an email with instructions on how to refund it in an alternative form. In this case, you might see an email from Payoneer, a company that Google has partnered with to process these types of refunds. For those with 20 or fewer transactions, Google will send one email for each transaction refunded. For those with 21 or more transactions, your refund activity will come in a single email.

For those who have deleted their account, Google will still try to perform a recovery. If you deleted your Stadia account and have concerns, contact Stadia customer service to clear things up. They will ask for some information about your account but refunds will be processed. For device recoveries, Google states that it will eventually reach these devices but doesn’t have a timeline that says only that they will be processed by January 18th. In its original statement, Google offered refunds on Founders Edition, Premiere Edition, and viewing using Google TV and Stadia console bundles.

It’s important to note that hardware refunds of any kind are only eligible if you purchased directly from Google. So if you bought your product from a physical retailer like Best Buy, you can’t go to the store to return it. Additionally, in most cases, users will not be required to send their product back to Google but may have to provide “proof of the device” for a refund. If necessary, you will be contacted with details.

As of now, Stadia owners will need to wait and monitor their inbox. Those who have games on Stadia from major publishers may be able to transfer them, so it’s also worth looking into before the service shuts down permanently on January 18, 2023.
