Freddie Mercury: The Queen’s Song He Felt Made The Band “Actually Closer” | music | entertainment

Last year marked the 50th anniversary of Queen’s final lineup when John Deacon joined the band as guitarist. To celebrate half a century, a 50-part YouTube special called Queen The Greatest has been officially put on hold every week for a year, attracting more than 15 million fan views. Now that The Miracle Collector’s Edition is slated to release next week, a two-part special about making the album has been done, with the first version available to watch below.

When The Miracle was released in May 1989, it had been two and a half years since Queen’s last album. However, the band desperately needed a break.

Deacon said at the time, “I think the wait from 1986, really, was after we did [Magic] On tour, we were all totally exhausted, and basically, we didn’t really want to work together or see each other for a while. And then, towards the end of that sophomore year, we kind of met up and Freddy suggested we try some studio time. We recovered from taking two years off, and that helped get the album off to a good start.”

Queens manager Jim Beach confirmed it, saying, “They got closer and closer without any doubt at all, and sharing the written credits was a huge breakthrough.”

Freddy added, “We decided we’d only get back together if we really wanted to, and it just felt like our early days, which is why we got so excited and said ‘Oh yeah! This would be cool, and it took out a whole load of trails. In fact, I think I remember we had to choose from 30 tracks to get to the last 10”
