Lizzo to be named “People’s Champion” at the People’s Choice Awards

Three-time Grammy-winning singer Lizzo will receive the “People’s Champion” award at the 2022 People’s Choice Awards, NBC, and E! announced on Friday.

Lizzo has previously been nominated five times for her record-breaking books and continued activism on topics such as body positivity and racial inclusion.

“She leads with kindness, champions inclusivity, and champions diversity and growing equality in the industry and beyond,” Cassandra Tryon, senior vice president of live entertainment events for NBCUniversal Television and Streaming, said of Lizzo. “Her commitment to breaking down barriers and enabling others to use their voices to effect change makes her a true ‘People’s Champion’.

Lizzo released her latest album, “Private,” in July 2022, and the hit single “About Damn Time” quickly climbed to #1 on Billboard’s “Hot 100” chart. Recently, Lizzo released a remix of the album’s fourth track, “2 Be Loved (Am I Ready), with PNAU – three EDM musicians.

Comedian Kenan Thompson will host the 2022 People’s Choice Awards and will be broadcast live on NBC and E! at 9 p.m. ET on December 6. The party is scheduled to take place at the Parker Hanger in Santa Monica and will begin with a red carpet that will be available to stream on E! 7 p.m. Eastern time.

True Crime Documentary Series “Where’s Soldier Dolani?” Available to stream exclusively on Hulu starting November 16, according to ABC News Studios.

Over the course of three episodes, the limited series investigates the 1979 disappearance of Private Leroy Dolani from his Marine Corps base in North Carolina. However, the real hero of the series is Dolani’s mother, Carol, who is looking for justice for her son after his job is announced. The documentaries are woven together through first-hand accounts of the incident from Carol as well as Leroy’s siblings and wife.

Director and Executive Producer Joshua Bennett is the lead producer on “Where Is Private Dulaney?” They were joined by co-executive producers Maro Chermayef, Jeff Dupree, Justin Barnes, Mark Grande, Rob Myers and Beth Hope.

Disney+ has revealed the official trailer and main art for “The Low Tone Club,” an upcoming original Latin American series that premieres on the platform November 30 with Colombian singer Carlos Vives in the lead role.

Vives plays dedicated music teacher Amaranto Molina, who attempts to inspire a group of faded students to look to music for personal healing rather than commercial success. Young musicians, dubbed “The Low Tones”, will have to battle head-to-head with “The High Tones”, made up of the school’s top five musicians.

The trailer shows glimpses of the film’s upcoming musical numbers as well as moments of comedic relief, highlighted primarily by the rivalry between Amaranto and director Eduardo Kramer (Julián Arango), who oversees The High Tones.

Cast members include Kevin Puri, Elena Vives, Brenner Gamboa, Maria Fernanda Marin, Catalina Polo, Gregorio Omania, Manuela Duque, Salome Camargo and more.

The pilot season of “The Low Tone Club” is being produced by TeleColombia for The Walt Disney Company. The series is directed by Jorge Navas, known for his 2009 film “Blood and Rain”.
