Mariah Carey has confirmed that she will perform at the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade

The holiday season is right around the corner, and there’s absolutely no shortage of ways for fans to get in the spirit. One of the most viral — and perhaps polarizing — songs might be Mariah Carey’s “All I Want For Christmas Is You,” a song that has become almost synonymous with Christmas. Carey was no stranger to sharing the song in creative ways, even if it happened earlier and earlier in the year. This year, that will include Carey partnering with another holiday touchstone, the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. As Carey revealed on social media Friday, she’ll be performing “All I Want for Christmas Is You” at the end of the 2022 parade, opening for Santa Claus’ grand arrival.

Who wrote “All I Want For Christmas Is You”?

The song was written by Carey and co-producer Walter Avancev, and was the highlight of Carey’s first holiday album, 1994’s Merry Christmas. As Avancev

“20 years ago, Christmas music and Christmas albums for artists were not the same thing as they are today,” Afanasyev Tell painting Back in 2014. “Back then, you didn’t have a lot of artists that had Christmas albums; it wasn’t known at all at that time, and nobody was doing big new Christmas songs. So we were going to put it out as a kind of everyday, ‘Hey, You know, we’re releasing a Christmas album. It’s no big deal.” To think of it as a No. 1 single, that’s going to lead an album… We just had no idea that. That wasn’t what the time was. That’s what made it such a modern phenomenon: because it’s not like “White.” Christmas” or “Jingle Bells” – the song doesn’t have any of those traditional elements, but it becomes a huge hit.”

Elsewhere in the interview, Afanasieff said, “It’s not like nobody writes Christmas songs — everyone’s trying to get a Christmas song.” But for whatever reason, “All I Want For Christmas Is You” became that song. It’s kind of like you’d never have imagined, and you can’t really explain why, and we feel lucky, because it was the last major song to enter the Christmas canon, Then close the door.

The Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade will air Thursday, November 24 at 9 a.m. local time on NBC.
