Michigan beats Illinois upset over milk power: CFB media react

The Michigan Wolverines were on edge against Illinois, but they bounced back to fight off an upset and the college football media couldn’t look away.

Call it a looking forward spot, call it a bad day in the office, but the Michigan Wolverines were in serious trouble Saturday morning against the Illinois Fighting Illini.

Although Jim Harbaugh’s team was favored by 17.5 points in Ann Arbor, they found themselves down 17-10 in the fourth quarter as the offense stalled after star running back Blake Corum was hit late in the first half. But to its due credit, Michigan’s defense held up against the Illini offense while JJ McCarthy, though far from perfect, continued to allow the Wolverines to put points on the board with field goals.

The ultimate goal was the most exciting.

After a questionable catch ruling put them within field goal range, Jake Moody came out and showed he had Bill Rafferty’s onion in the big moment as he drilled the field goal that became the game-winner.

Michigan holds on to Illinois to avoid upset: College football media react

With so much drama in the Big House, the college football media was all about the near upset Michigan avoided.

One thing is for sure, Michigan can’t play the way they did on Saturday next week as they travel to Columbus for a date with rival Ohio State. If they did, it wouldn’t be a pretty sight for the Wolverines.

But for now, all is still well for Harbaugh and his milkmen. They are undefeated so far in the season with a shot to get into college football. But then again, this has to be the game they survived, because that kind of performance just isn’t going to cut it from now on.
