Both actors have filled the shoes of the director, writer, and actor many times, including in Affleck’s latest film, The Tender Bar.

The main idea of the business is to make people in the world of cinema make more money in reverse. People in movies usually get paid upfront no matter how the movie is done, they want to take it old school and have them take a cut of the actual profits.
This was the way it was before streaming services would get money depending on how the movie did in theaters, and that would somehow lead them to invest in the outcome of the project instead of just getting paid and rolling it back.

Both explained to The New York Times “As operators multiply, they’ve already ended back-sharing, and so this is partly an effort to take some of that value back and share it in a more equitable way.” Ben Affleck “Not only writers, directors and stars. But also cinematographers, editors, fashion designers and other important artists who, in my opinion, are paid too little.”

The company’s name is Artists’ Equity and it’s looking to do what studios can’t, which is let creators take control of their vision without having to deal with politics.
They are putting their own money into the company
Matt and Ben already have over $100 million in funding from RedBird Capital Partners – as well as putting a significant amount of their own money up to actually invest in the project.
