Bob Iger sends a note to Disney employees after replacing Bob Chapek as CEO

In what could end up being the biggest entertainment news of the year, Bob Iger has found his way back to Disney. Late Sunday night, Iger was named the new CEO of The Walt Disney Company, a position he previously held from 2005 to 2020. This time, Iger replaced his successor, Bob Chapek, after a tumultuous tenure at the helm of the company that lasted less than three years. Iger didn’t waste much time before he got down to business, sending out a company-wide email to Disney employees.

“It is with an incredible sense of gratitude and humility – and I must confess a little surprise – that I am writing to you this evening with the news that I am returning to The Walt Disney Company as CEO,” Iger wrote. In his note to Disney staff members.

He then praised the company’s work throughout the pandemic, praising them for keeping them afloat.

“I know this company has demanded a lot from you over the past three years, and those times certainly remain very challenging, but as you’ve heard me say before, I’m an optimist, and if I’ve learned one thing from my years at Disney, it’s that even in the face of uncertainty — maybe in some ways. Special in the face of uncertainty – our staff and cast members make the impossible possible,” added the executive.

So far, it’s unclear if Egger’s return is a permanent solution or just a measure to bridge the gap between Chapek and the new CEO.

Iger’s full note can be read below.
