What is Canadian Thanksgiving?
The Canadian Parliament declared a day of thanks for the “abundant harvest that Canada has been blessed with” in 1879.
In fact, the holiday had early beginnings, possibly starting in some form in 1587 with Arctic explorer Martin Frobisher.
It wasn’t until 1957 that the second Monday in October was chosen as Thanksgiving in Canada.
The decision led to complaints from farmers that this gave those in town a longer weekend when the weather was still suitable for outdoor work. Farmers still have to work.
Why is the date of Canadian Thanksgiving different from Thanksgiving in the USA?
It seems that this decision of the authorities is the reason why Thanksgiving is celebrated in Canada at a different time than the United States and other countries that celebrate the holiday in the region.
The main factor in choosing this date is that the crop tends to come earlier than in America. It is also used as a final push to get people outside before winter sets in.

The difference between Canada and the United States is that there is no such crazy shopping day after Thanksgiving as there is in America with Black Friday.
