If you need to take birth control pills on a regular basis to stay healthy, you’ll want to explore how to set up medications on your iPhone now that iOS 16 has added this feature to the Health app. With the Medications feature turned on in iOS 16, you can get regular reminders to take your pills as well as alerts about any potential drug-drug interactions.
As I mentioned in my iOS 16 review, adding medicines is one of my favorite things about the iOS update. Thanks to medication reminders, I rarely forget to take my pills. It’s a much simpler system than using the built-in Reminders app, and it’s encouraged me to get more serious about using my iPhone to track my health data.
If this sounds like something that would work for you, here’s how to set up medications on your iPhone in iOS 16 so you can stay on top of your health.
1. Launch the Health app And the Select Browse from the tabs at the bottom of the screen.
2. under the categories of health, Select medications.
3. If this is the first time you are using the Medicines feature, a splash screen will appear. Click on Add Medication.
4. You have the option to search for a medication or use the camera to scan your medication. Let’s start with the search by option Enter the drug name in the search field.
As you type the name, potential matches will appear. Could you Click on matchor you can finish typing and Click Add Medication Name, which appears below the Potential Matches section. Click Next.
5. Choose the type of medication from the options menu then select next.
6. Enter your dose in the force field And the Select the unit of measure. You can skip this step if you want.
7. Select the frequency for the time of taking the medication. By default, you use the medications every day, but your options include specific days of the week, as needed or a period of your choosing.
8. Click on add time To list when you will take the medication.
9. You have a choice Choose the shape of the bean to facilitate visual identification. You can skip this step if you want.
You are also given a choice Choose the grain and background color If it also helps you to identify medicines more easily.
10. Could you Add more details Such as the name of the display or note. when you finish , Click Done.
11. to add another medicine, Click Add Medication in the main medicines screen. This time, we will use the camera to add the medicine by Click on the camera icon on a subseqent screen.
12. To add a drug with the iPhone camera, Place the medication label in the center of the camera frame.
13. If your camera can read the label, it will list potential matches. Click on the match that applies. If it’s not there, you can either search by name (refer to step 4 above) or try again using your camera.
Assuming you’ve added your medication and dose through your camera, follow steps 7, 8, 9, and 10 to complete adding that medication to the Health app.
One of the benefits of adding your medications to the Health app is that it can alert you to possible adverse interactions. You will be asked to turn on interactions for things like alcohol, cannabis, and tobacco. If any interactions are found, they will appear in the Drug Interactions section below your medication list.
