Kevin Bacon hates not being acknowledged publicly – “Who Doesn’t Want to Be Loved?” | Movies | entertainment

This week, on Friday, November 25, 2022, Disney Plus will release The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special. The film follows Peter Quill who traces the real life of Kevin Bacon on Earth after he became obsessed with Footloose as a child. Bacon would likely be glad to be recognized by Star-Lord, as he previously admitted that he enjoyed being seen in public and hated anonymity.

Bacon appeared on The Graham Norton Show in 2017 where he admitted these feelings while sitting next to Jessica Chastain and Diane Keaton. During the interview, he was questioned about his fame, having been a prominent figure in the public eye since his Hollywood debut in 1978’s National Lampoon’s Animal House.

Since then, he has become world-famous with blockbusters like Footloose, Planes, Trains, Cars, and Tremors, to name a few.

However, Bacon admitted that anonymity was not something he enjoyed at all. He said: “I will tell you.” “People don’t talk about the fact that getting to know you is 99.9 percent good, because people are nice to you all day long, for no reason at all!”

He noted that people “regularly stopped him on the street” to tell him “Kevin, I love you!” He added, “I mean, who doesn’t want to be loved. Right? Who wouldn’t want someone to say I love you?”

Bacon went on to further explain the perks of being so well known and loved internationally. “It feels great,” said the EE ad star, “and you can walk out with tickets, and they’ll give you free sneakers and a s**t like that. That’s mostly okay, my point.”

However, curiosity got the better of him. He continued, “Occasionally, you think to yourself, like, What would it be like to walk across the world anonymously?” With this idea, he conducted an experiment. He hired some Hollywood special effects makeup artists to completely transform his face. With prosthetics, facial skin, flesh, and hair, he looked completely different. Then he went out.

“I went to an open-air mall in Los Angeles called The Grove,” he recalls. “It’s kind of the worst place you’d want to hang around if you’re a celebrity. It’s a guaranteed place for you to take some selfies.”

Crestfallen said, “I walked right through The Grove and nobody recognized me. And it was horrible.” Bacon laughed: “I was like, ‘Here’s a wretched guy, I’m going back to Kevin Bacon ASAP!'”

Bacon recently looked back at Footloose, and the legacy it’s grown to have since its release in 1984. Speaking to Willie Geist of The Today Show, he said of the iconic ’80s movie, “I love it.”

He continued, “I think it’s cool. It’s like all those things where you think: ‘Oh, my God, are you going to just disappear one day?'” “At a certain point, you have to embrace the beast. I think it was a great gift to be a part of this movie.”

Looking back on trying to break into the industry as a “real” actor, he added, “I took it very seriously when I was doing it and I love that people keep coming up and saying they just showed it to their kids.”

Recently, the song “Footloose” by Kenny Loggins became a viral TikTok dance trend, joined by Bacon and his wife, Kyra Sedgwick.
