Patrick Peterson brings Thanksgiving cheer to more than 200 Minnesota families

This Thursday, the NFL will host its three annual Thanksgiving games. The climactic game of the holiday will be between the Minnesota Vikings and the New England Patriots. Throughout the week, we saw NFL players help out over the Thanksgiving weekend.

Before the Vikings-Patriots game, Vikings cornerback Patrick Peterson carried on a Thanksgiving tradition he’s embraced since 2014 when he was a member of the Arizona Cardinals. This week, he and Vikings safety Harrison Smith and the Open Door Food Pantry helped distribute turkeys to 200 families in need in Minnesota. In addition to the turkeys, Peterson provided free groceries to families.

“I want families to be able to participate in the Thanksgiving tradition by eating a nice home-cooked meal,” said Peterson. “With the platform and the position I’m in, I want to be able to lend a hand.”

As the NFL tweets mentioned, this is a tradition he brought from Arizona to Minnesota, and this is the second time he’s held the event as a member of the Vikings.

Peterson joined the Vikings in 2021 on a one-year deal, then re-signed with the Vikings for the season. The veteran played a huge role in the team’s success. In Week 10, for example, he recorded two interceptions, including the game-winner, against the Buffalo Bills.

This season, Peterson has recorded 39 combined tackles, 12 passes defensed, and three interceptions. In coverage, Peterson allowed 33 receptions for 431 yards, and four touchdowns on 56 targets, As per Pro Football reference.
