2 outfield free agent players chicago may take flight

The latest Chicago Cubs rumor links them to a pair of free football players that the team might buy at a low price and get a lot out of.

The Chicago Cubs roster has plenty of room for improvement. Many of the Cubs’ outfield rumors have focused on the shortstop. They’re as pegged as a potential destination for all of the Big Four as they were last winter when they sat on the sidelines instead.

This off-season should be a little different. They are alive in the lottery for players like Carlos Correa, Xander Bogaerts, and others. Besides looking for a shortstop, we have Cubs rumors linking them to a pair of outfielders that no one would have guessed two years ago would be unsigned.

according to John Heyman from the New York Post, the Cubs could be ready to take a flop on free kick quarterback Cody Bellinger or forgotten left cornerback Michael Conforto. Who is best suited for the cubs?

The Cubs rumor has it that the team is very eager to add the left power in free agency

Bellinger is just sitting there and available to the Cubs because the Los Angeles Dodgers chose not to bid him earlier this month. It is one of the most interesting free baseball clients out there. The phrase “low risk, high reward” may have been invented earlier for him.

Despite some trying times, the 2019 National League MVP has plenty of suitors. He’s been a bit of a mess at the plate for the past three seasons. He is fresh off a .210/.265/.389 campaign that was actually a drastic improvement over his dismal 2021 performance.

Seeing Bellinger mentioned in the Caps offseason rumors isn’t a shock. It is a natural fit for their needs in the center field. The team hasn’t been shy about adding players to short-term deals in recent seasons, either. Last season, they brought in a lot of relievers on one-year contracts. Bellinger would be a little more important than someone like David Robertson.

Conforto’s story differs from Bellinger’s story. While Bellinger would be a capable center fit for them, Conforto spent many of his later years playing right field for the New York Mets. His tenure with them ended when he turned down an offer to qualify for the last pre-lockout season.

It was during the lockdown when He was reportedly injured. The surgery held him back to the point where he ended up not being signed for all of 2022. He came at his own risk. Missing all of 2022 doesn’t help nor does the .232 / .344 / .384 performance from 2021 when he watched the last major league action.

Conforto becomes a subject of Cubs rumors with a bit more surprise. The team is still recruiting Ian Happ as their potential left fielder for next year. In the right field, they have a commitment to Sia Suzuki. Maybe they have other plans for Happ or see Conforto as a DH candidate.

Of the two, Bellinger is clearly the better. Someone is going to pay him a fixed amount and hope he can offer some winnings to the Dodgers. Will it be the Cubs?
