Steelers fans hope Matt Canada’s latest quote indicates his fate

Pittsburgh Steelers offensive coordinator Matt Canada knows writing is on hold for him after this season.

What is the best way to hinder the development of a rookie quarterback? Put him in a bad offensive system, with a bad offensive coordinator. That’s exactly what happened with the Steelers and Kenny Pickett.

However, asking Beckett to learn a second offense in sophomore year isn’t quite ideal either. How is he supposed to grow as a passer-by if he’s spending his free time learning a new playbook?

Pittsburgh is in trouble Canada, which arguably shouldn’t have been hired in the first place. He certainly shouldn’t have made it to sophomore year, entering his post-Ben Roethlisberger years. But, here we go, Canada is the OC lame duck and it looks unlikely to stay with the Steelers next year.

Steelers: Matt Canada tries to save his coaching staff

Canada fell to the Sword after another lackluster second-half performance in a loss to the Bengals, hoping to salvage its offensive staff, at least.

“We have a working team, a really, really good offensive team. You can get me out of it. That would suit what everybody wants to do,” he said. Canada said.

But does Canada take full responsibility for the Pittsburgh conflicts?

His scheme is best employed at the collegiate level, and with the speed available at the NFL level, he’s not always likely to succeed. Defensive coach Mike Tomlin probably doesn’t have much input on this side of the ball.

The Steelers need a scapegoat for their offensive struggles, and since the middle of last season, they’ve been among the worst teams in this division. Pittsburgh failed to move the ball consistently, and forced their defense to play perfect football, practically impossible in this era.

Under no circumstances should Canada lead an offense at the professional level. He’s earned more than enough opportunity, and it looks like his days of failing to climb are behind him.
