During the Netflix series The Addams Family, Wednesday, is all about Wednesday Addams (Gina Ortega) and her time at Nevermore Academy, the series wouldn’t be, well, the Addams family without Thing, the family’s loyal butler who also happens to have a severed hand. In the new series, Thing appears in spy Wednesday’s Nevermore, but ends up being her partner in crime, and now Netflix is sharing some hilarious behind-the-scenes photos that show how the series brings the iconic character to life.

The post shared three photos of the making of the series, one with Dorobantu dressed in blue as he crouches behind Ortega for a photo while the others show the actor peering out from behind a door and then onto a camera cart, highlighting how the series depicts the object in motion. “It was so funny, because Thing was made up back in the day. Every day we’d show up and go, ‘Ahhh…’ [hand motions] That seems right. I feel like I kind of know what he’s saying. But Tim wanted to be an actual actor like they did in the ’90s movies, so he was this magician named Victor [Dorobantu]Ortega said screen rant. “He was wearing a full blue suit, hiding behind walls and under beds. Then they built this prosthesis over his hand so it looked like a wrist knob, and he was walking around.”
She added, “Tim really loved his impeccable mannerisms, and would spend hours doing hair and makeup every day just to get that hand.”
