Wednesday on Netflix contains a memorable Beetlejuice reference and other Easter eggs

Since Netflix gave us the First look at Tim Burton Adams family It was obvious when Wednesday will hit the 2022 TV scheduleFans were in for a show honoring the director’s early work. Well, the series is finally here, and the episodes are full of easter eggs and teases from Burton’s early cinematic. One of the most memorable callbacks to one of Burton’s most beloved and highest-rated films, Beetlejuice.

The shrunken cape on Chief Larissa Weems’ desk is an apparent nod to Tim Burton’s iconic 1988 comedy classic. Home Weems – Played ably Game of thrones Alum Gwendolyn Christie She keeps the little skull on her desk under a glass dome. said the show’s production designer, Mark Scruton diverse It was an intended nod to the end of the Michael Keaton movie.

Beetlejuice It famously concludes with the foul-mouthed ghost of Michael Keaton sitting between a shrunken-headed man (known as Harry the Huntsman) and a witch doctor. After the titular ogre makes the mistake of distracting the witch into switching tickets for their line, the shaman sprinkles shrinking powder on the trickster, causing his head to shrink to the same size as the hunter.

The shrunken head is just one of the many nods to Burton’s earlier projects that have been fleshed out throughout Wednesday. According to Scruton, the Weathervanes Café, a frequent stomping ground for Nevermore students, has classic Tim Burton teasers in the form of wall-mounted metal weathervanes. Headless Knight of Sleepy Hollow And Willy Wonka’s hat were just a few designs created by Scruton and his production team to reference the famous director’s previous films.

And the references don’t end with Tim Burton’s work either. The series offers reconnections to other adaptations of classic Charles Addams cartoon characters. Wednesday’s Gina Ortega article depicts Adams as despising all things Pilgrims and colonialism. When she is transported to Nevermore, she is confronted with the fact that the nearest amusement park is called Pilgrim World. The strange location is a subtle nod to the 1990s theatrical sequel, Addams family values, in which the oldest Addams child — played by Christina Ricci (who also stars in the Netflix show) — is reluctantly sent with her brother Pugsley to Camp Chippewa. Wednesday Richie famously burned the camp’s Thanksgiving celebration to the ground in one of the most memorable scenes. Surely many people remember the incredibly dark and hilarious sequence.
