The Kansas City Chiefs are now 9-2 on the season and have a huge lead in the AFC West. Here’s how close they came to earning the department title.
Remember when the AFC West should have been tougher on the Kansas City Chiefs after all the additions made by their rivals the Denver Broncos, Los Angeles Chargers and Las Vegas Raiders. happy times. Instead, the department underperformed dramatically, while the Chiefs showed they could still be a juggernaut even without wide receiver Terek Hill.
On Sunday, Kansas City claimed its ninth win of the season by defeating the Los Angeles Rams without Matthew Stafford and Cooper Cobb 26-10. This helped them come close to winning the AFC West title for the seventh year in a row.
However, they didn’t get much help from the Arizona Cardinals, as they blew a 24-17 lead with less than two minutes left to lose 25-24 to the Los Angeles Chargers.
The division title is essentially a loss to Kansas City. Here’s when they can make it up soon.
When will Chiefs be able to win the AFC West title?
The Chiefs’ magic number sits at three after their win and the Chargers’ clutch victory. This means that the Chiefs need any combination of their own wins and Chargers’ losses. So, the earliest a team can win is week 14.
Kansas City plays the Cincinnati Bengals and Broncos in the next two weeks. On the other hand, Los Angeles Raiders and Miami Dolphins are facing off.
These are the sets Kansas City will need to win the AFC West title by Week 14:
- Two KC wins and one LAC loss
- One win KC and two losses LAC
Kansas City already holds the tiebreaker over Los Angeles considering they’ve won both head-to-head matches this season. So, barring an epic meltdown by the Chiefs, the AFC West should be theirs, considering they have a three-game lead over the Chargers after Week 12.
