Bleach: The Thousand Year Blood War has begun a major period of training and recovery with the latest episode of the series, and the seeds have been planted for Ichigo Kurosaki’s next master Zanpakuto! The long-awaited new anime kicked off the final arc of the Tite Kubo manga series with a bloody battle between Soul Reapers and Quincies that ended with the villains achieving a huge victory and leaving many losses in their wake. Losing Ichigo was also the hardest loss because as much as he tried, he couldn’t save Soul Society.
The first conflict against Yhwach and the other Sternritter ends up completely breaking Ichigo’s Zanpakuto, unfortunately it is revealed in the newer episode that his Zanpakuto will never be able to repair as it was before. In fact, it’s so badly finished as a result of the fight that he needs to rework it into something more like the original Zanpakuto, and he’s heading to a new area of Soul Society to do so.
What will happen to Ichigo’s Zanpakuto?
Episode 8 of Bleach: A bloody war for a thousand years He explains that because not only did Ichigo’s shikai break, but his Bankai, it would be impossible to repair. This leaves Ichigo out of options as to how to proceed until Squad Zero arrives. This is a special squad of powerful Soul Reapers who directly protect the Soul King, and they offer to raise Ichigo to their level in order to return him to his full strength and repair his blade before the next battle to come.

It’s an intriguing proposition that will leave the rest of Soul Society completely helpless as he tries to make himself stronger, but Ichigo knows better than anyone that without his sword or a real way to help in the fight, he won’t be ready for the next half of the struggle. It’s just a matter of knowing what form Ichigo’s new Zanpakuto will take after all this.
