Jordan Love came to Sunday Night Football after Aaron Rodgers was injured and back-to-back MVP revealed his thoughts on playing his successor.
Although it looked like the Green Bay Packers would have Aaron Rodgers under center in Week 13, he was knocked out of the team’s last game of Sunday Night Football against the Philadelphia Eagles. That paved the way for the former first-round pick and realizing Rodgers’ successor Jordan Love to take over.
Love’s performance was fantastic – perhaps a lot more than might have been expected given how little we’ve seen of him previously. Rodgers played nearly three-quarters of the game and was only 11-of-16 for 140 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions, but Love entered and went 6-of-9 for 113 yards and a touchdown with no turnovers while trying for a kickoff return.
He was ultimately unsuccessful in his comeback attempt, but he made an impression; That impression made some wonder if the team should lock down Rodgers and let Love start the rest of the season.

Since this conversation happened, it was curious what Rodgers would say about love. But during his weekly appearance on Tuesday Show Pat McAfeeRodgers reacted brilliantly to the young midfielder’s performance, showing the true mentor mentality around the situation.
“It was great to watch,” Rodgers said. “I feel like a big brother watching him do well. I care about the kid so much. It’s fun to see him grow, it’s fun to see him just kind of relax there.”
So count Aaron Rodgers among those Jordan Love admired when he entered the game.
Whatever Rodgers thinks, Love’s performance in Week 12 will raise questions in Green Bay. The team doesn’t know if Rodgers plans to return or retire after the 2022 season, and in a similar way, they also don’t know what they have in love as a succession plan.
It may be incumbent upon the Packers to hand the reins over to Love for the rest of the season to help answer the last part of that equation. However, it remains to be seen if Rodgers will be open to the idea, even with his injuries.
Despite that, Rodgers is loving what he’s seen of the love he’s seen in the past week. And the way he talks should give Packers fans a hint of optimism about the future.
