Spoilers below for the first two episodes of Criminal Minds: Evolution, so be careful if you haven’t checked it out yet. (But really, why didn’t you?)
Of all the big things revealed during the dual streaming premiere of the Renaissance season Criminal Minds: Evolution – Including Widowed Russian While new UnSub Elias Voit has a wife and kids — arguably the least expected revelation came in the form of yet another relationship, only this time for Tara Lewis. And star Aisha Tyler spoke to CinemaBlend about her excitement at giving her character some happiness in the field, even if it’s not all positive. Get it girl!
Not only does Louis finally get a new romantic counterpart, as viewers learned along with Paget Brewster’s Prentiss, but with a woman! And this isn’t the first time you’ve gone down this road! (No more exclamation points…for now). Lois admits that she has been seeing Rebecca Wilson of the Department of Justice (Nicole Passnet) for two months, and tells Prentice that while she has dated women before, she has never been so happy. No one knows who deserves this life update more than Aisha Tyler herself, and as we saw above, she spoke of being excited to take on her character’s first on-screen romance in over half a decade. In her words:
Yes, that’s great. Lois hasn’t been in a relationship since my first season, which was Season 11. And I get that. We work a lot with people who really do this work in the real world, and it’s hard to maintain relationships with this business. It’s a dark business. People who do this work are sin eaters, right? Tolerate a lot of darkness. So it’s great to see her happy and in a healthy relationship.
for a long time Archer Star, it’s not necessarily a major fictional sin that Lewis has been without any steady relationships for so long, as he’s not entirely unfamiliar to those in the fields of criminal profiling and behavior analysis. The nature of the job can be a mental and physical hurdle to romance, whether it’s the long, unpredictable hours or the emotional drudgery that comes from dealing with such dark and upsetting cases.
But then those who deal with that darkness on a daily basis can often be the ones who need the most relief outside of work, so it only makes sense that Louis was finally able to get back in touch with someone else in lasting ways. Say Lucky Rebecca. But even though things are all excited at the moment, Aisha Tyler has slipped some ominousness into the mix by saying that the show will continue to explore the couple-centric complexities that come with BAU relationships. (And not in the way that Alves made it difficult for Garcia to keep him their little experience It goes on more than one date.) Here’s how to put it:
But I also think we’ll explore what kind of pressure this work puts on a relationship, that it puts on a family. It’s hard work, and it takes a certain kind of person, and also a certain kind of likable person to be able to put up with it. So I guess we’ll really look at this season. But it’s been great exploring that relationship, and I’m really excited to see it.
Tyler certainly didn’t say specifically that Lois’ relationship was going to be doomed or anything, and it’s normal for any relationship, new or old, to go through growing pains. And it’s certainly possible that her problems at the British Business League and Rebecca’s Ministry of Justice issues are very different, although both are government-related, which could create their own unique problems. Two wrongs don’t make a right, but hopefully there’s already more than enough rights between them to survive any rough waters.
