Hopes for Johnny Depp’s Jack Sparrow return rise after exciting Pirates of the Caribbean 6 news | Movies | entertainment

It’s been five years since Johnny Depp last played Captain Jack Sparrow in the fifth Pirates of the Caribbean movie. His future in the franchise has been uncertain since allegations of domestic violence by his ex-wife Amber Heard, which he vehemently denies. However, after he won the libel case, fans are hoping Disney will bring him back, and there are definitely positive signs in the latest update about the future of the franchise.

Pirates of the Caribbean producer Jerry Bruckheimer has two future films in the pipeline. One is Pirates 6 and the other is a Margot Robbie-led spin-off. The Australian actress recently told Vanity Fair that her movie is now “dead,” adding, “I guess they don’t want to do that.”

However, Bruckheimer has now confirmed that’s not the case, just that they want to focus on Pirates 6 first. He told Collider: “I think that script is going to progress at a certain point. We’ve developed two different stories for Pirates and one going forward first, so that’s what we’re working on, to try to make that story.”

The question then is, is this a movie Depp’s Jack Sparrow will star in? The product has a lot to say.

Earlier this year, Bruckheimer was asked if Depp would be in Pirates 6. He told The Sunday Times: “Not at this point. The future is undecided.” Well, that doesn’t exactly close the door on Jack Sparrow, does it?

Then in the summer, he told Comic Book that the original team from the first movie, The Curse of the Black Pearl, is returning. “I’m so excited,” the 79-year-old said, “It’s going to be great. We’re just working on the script. One of the original writers, Ted Elliott, is helping write it. He’s got a great command of characters.”

It’s not certain that Captain Jack will make or appear, but given what Depp has said about wanting to give his character a decent send-off, surely he can be persuaded? Here are some of his comments.

During the defamation case, Depp said: “My feeling was that these characters should be able to say goodbye appropriately, as it is. A franchise can only go on for so long and there’s a way to end a franchise like that and I think the characters deserve to come out, to end the franchise on a good note.” I plan to keep going until it’s time to stop.

“Captain Jack Sparrow was a character I built from the ground up and it was something I put a lot of work into [myself] In character and also having worked on these movies with these people and adding a lot of myself, a lot of rewriting of dialogue and scenes and jokes. I didn’t quite understand how, after that long and decidedly totally successful relationship with Disney, she was suddenly guilty until proven innocent.”

At the time Depp said he wouldn’t come back, but who knows? Time heals and he knows his fans desperately need more Captain Jack.
