PlayStation Plus officially copies one of the best features of Xbox Game Pass

It appears that PlayStation is copying Xbox – and more specifically, Xbox Game Pass – by adding a new component to PlayStation Plus to better highlight games that people should pay attention to. PlayStation Plus subscribers have noticed this week that the PlayStation subscription service now appears to mark a specific game as a ‘Day 1 release’ if it will be accessing PlayStation Plus Essential, PlayStation Plus Extra or PlayStation Plus Premium on the same day that it is widely available. Aside from the usefulness of this feature, the fact that it exists also bodes well for PlayStation’s future PS Plus plans.

The Day 1 Release badge is a badge PS Plus subscribers may have noticed recently when PlayStation revealed free games in December. one of those games, Divine knockoutIt is the “direct launch to PlayStation Plus”, said PlayStation. The badge affixed to the game’s artwork in the tweet below says as much, too.

If you’re someone who’s also an Xbox Game Pass subscriber, you’ll know that Day 1 releases have been out there for a long time now. Xbox Game Pass only gets three of these types of releases in the first half of December, for example, and they’re always marked as such in Xbox Wire posts announcing them.

To be clear, this isn’t the first time PlayStation has released a game this way. Pogsnax It was available from the start as a PS Plus game before levels were shaken up, for example, and stray It launched as a Day 1 game for subscribers as well. Both games were well crafted upon release and were lauded for their respective merits, but one can imagine that being free to subscribers played a role in the spotlight they got.

However, this banner stating that the game is a Day 1 release did not exist at the time. With the official introduction of the “Day 1 Release” badge, it seems PlayStation is hoping to replicate that success by formalizing the process which, in turn, suggests we’ll see more Day 1 releases like this in the future.

PlayStation Plus’ free PS Plus games for December will be available from December 6, so you’ll be able to play Divine knockout And more starts after that.
