The Christmas tree is always the centerpiece when it comes to decorating our homes for the holiday season. And while we often focus on the pretty baubles, tinsel, or other shiny decorations, we often lose sight of the main thing that gives the Christmas tree its “wow” factor—the lights.
In fact, without the magical glow, the Christmas tree would probably look dull rather than dazzling. So why ignore the humble series of lights? Admittedly, hanging Christmas string lights was my least favorite part of decorating the tree. Not only is it difficult to wrap lights around branches neatly, but it’s time consuming. No matter how many times I tried to create the perfect Christmas tree lighting, I would always end up with a tangled, ugly mess. I was convinced that only a professional can master the art.
That was until I discovered this viral and game-changing Christmas tree lighting technique. 1. First, Kelly starts by disassembling three groups of 2,000 warm white, LED cluster lights, much like the Dazzle Bright White Christmas String Lights ($49 (Opens in a new tab)And the Amazon (Opens in a new tab)). According to Kelly, these lights don’t really tangle which makes decorating the tree so much easier.
2. Starting at the bottom, the lights push back toward the trunk, rather than along the branch tips. Not only does this help the lights shine outward, but it also allows you to hide wires more easily.
3. Next, Kelly begins wrapping the torso using the zig-zag method. Instead of walking around the tree to turn its lights (as we often do), move left to right, right to left, focusing only on the front of the tree. To properly secure the lights, you clip them around the inner branches.
4. When the entire trunk is covered, Kelly will move the lights outward to each branch of the tree, continuing to use the zig-zag method. This way, you will have glowing light coming from the bottom of the branches as well as the top. Once it’s over, it has a dazzling, brightly lit Christmas tree to rival those in Hallmark movies.
Not surprisingly, this viral Christmas tree lighting hack has garnered over 4.3 million views on TikTok, with over 900 comments from stunned viewers. One commenter said, “I never thought of putting cluster lights on the tree!” Wow,” while another joked, “They can see this tree from space.” Either way, it’s sure to be a game-changer for achieving the brightest Christmas tree ever, without all the hard work and nagging. Best of all, he’ll add A soft glow and warmth to your home, making it feel more festive.
What is the zig zag method?
Essentially, the zig-zag method moves from left to right (and back again), as you position your Christmas tree lights. This is more effective than draping or walking around your tree winding the lights; Plus, no lights will get lost in the back that can’t be seen. Plus, the zig-zag method makes it much easier to take down the lights without them being a tangled mess all caught in the twigs. So it’s a win-win for everyone!
