WWE crowns Ricochet as SmackDown’s first World Cup winner, earning a shot at the Intercontinental Title

The finals of the WWE Championship for the first time ever on SmackDown World Cup is set for tonight’s SmackDown Showdown, and it will be between Santos Escobar and Ricochet. Escobar isn’t rolling alone, but the Legado del Fantasma would find itself banished from the arena, leaving Escobar and Ricochet truly in a one-on-one situation. Ricochet took advantage of the even odds as well, and the two would go on to have a great match that saw them two inches away from victory and a shot at Gunther’s Intercontinental Championship. It was ultimately Ricochet who would pick up the win, making Ricochet the first SmackDown World Cup winner.

At one point in the match, Legado tried to interfere, and while they landed a few shots on Ricochet without the referee noticing, they tried to interfere too much, and the referee ended up catching up. This led to Cruz and Joaquin being knocked out, and while Zelina Vega was sitting in commentary unaffected, she was jumping onto the ring apron to challenge the referee.

This resulted in her being kicked out of the referee as well, leaving Santos truly on his own against Ricochet. Ricochet and Escobar would throw the kitchen sink at each other, and Ricochet would change momentum on his way with a super move. Both got to their feet and exchanged blows and uppercuts, and then collided in the center of the ring, hitting each other on the mat.

Escobar drew Ricochet outside the ring and Ricochet jumped and landed on the barricade, with Escobar following. Escobar hit a hurricane on Ricochet, but Ricochet kicked out on two cover attempts. Escobar had a ricochet on the top rope but he fell to the mat. Ricochet pulled himself together but Escobar moved out of the way and got back on the ropes. Escobar hits another hurricane but Ricochet falls to his feet and then hits his knee in the face. Then he hit a suplex and rolled into a vertical suplex and then went to moonshin the cover, but was kicked out by Escobar.

Ricochet hit a jab and then went up again, but when he hit the slick, Escobar raised his knees and went for cover, though Ricochet knocked out the pin. Escobar picked him up and hit his knees to the head though Ricochet made a cover save. Escobar kicked out and then pinned Ricochet to the mat, but Ricochet kicked out. Escobar grabbed Ricochet but stopped him with punches in the back. Ricochet hit a hurricane on Escobar and then landed a big knee to the head and a kick to the chin followed by a kick to the head. Ricochet rose to the top and hit spots 630 in the cover and won the World Cup.

Ricochet will now face Gunter for the Intercontinental Championship on December 16 in Chicago.
