It is unlikely that a team would emerge as a threat to steal Xander Bogaerts from the Red Sox

The Boston Red Sox are throwing fans on the craziest adventure with minimal updates on star shortstop Xander Bogaerts, but teams are moving forward to sign him.

The Red Sox are swooning over whether or not they’ll keep star shortstop Xander Bogaerts through his free agency. As teams begin to sign and the market dwindles, Boston has to make a decision before it’s too late. Teams are keeping tabs on the Bogaerts, and the Red Sox may end up without a star shortstop.

According to MLB Network’s John Morosi, the Arizona Diamondbacks are among some of the most dangerous suitors for the Bogarts.

It looks very strange. The Diamondbacks have only made the playoffs six times in their franchise’s 25-year history, and they certainly haven’t looked like contenders outside of the only World Series they won in 2001.

However, Arizona general manager Mike Hazen has connections with the Bogarts that make the interest seem less random.

Diamondbacks GM Mike Hazen has ties to Xander Bogaerts

Hazen worked in the Red Sox front office for the Corporation The first three seasons of Bogart’s career in the majors. He didn’t have the potential he has now, but he was starting to warm up just as Hazen was leaving.

Bogart went on to achieve many things for Boston when they needed him most. He’s been with the team to two World Series titles, earned five silverware, led the league’s shortstops in batting average (. 307) and on-base percentage (. 377) in 2022 and was the only Red Sox player this past season to be nominated for an award. The Golden Glove.

Hazen Bogaerts watched firsthand as he grew into the player he is today, despite not being in Boston for a few years. A native of Massachusetts, it makes sense that he would be deeply interested in a star the Red Sox aren’t fighting so hard to keep.

However, the fact that the Diamondbacks come off as a contender when there are so many other teams that seem stronger rhetorically is definitely surprising.
