Rebecca Lim leads “Lock Up” the Cooler

Rebecca Lim, the Singaporean star of “This Land Is Mine” and “The Pupil” and the Asian portrayal of “The Bridge,” will lead the cast of the creepy thriller “Confinement.” The film is set to be directed by Kelvin Tong (“The Maid,” “It’s a Great World”) starting in February next year.

The story involves a pregnant painter who moves into her dream home and hires a confinement nanny. When the woman begins one month in confinement, inexplicable incidents begin to mount in the house, threatening her and her young child.

The production is led by Singapore-based distributor and producer Clover Films in partnership with Chinese broadcasting company iQiyi and supported by the Singapore Film Commission. The project was unveiled on the first day of the Asia Television and Market Forum in Singapore.

The total estimated budget is S$1.2 million (US$880,000). Hong Kong-based Celestial Tiger Entertainment and Singapore-listed media group GHY Culture & Media have joined as investors and will take presenter credits. Boku Films receives co-credit.

Delivery is scheduled for the third quarter of 2023. iQiyi will handle distribution in China, while Clover will represent the film for international sales in the rest of the world.

The movie is part of the list of movies that Clover works with iQiyi with support from SFC. It also follows the launch of the “Reunion Dinner” during the Lunar New Year 2022. iQiyi is seeking to expand outside of China and manages its international content investment activities from Singapore.

I worked with Rebecca on a TV project a few years ago, and I was struck by her presence and intelligence. She’s able to translate the unseen with her acting, which makes her perfect for ‘confinement,’ which deals with the anxiety surrounding a stranger arriving home,” said Tong.

“We are delighted to confirm Rebecca for our film. She is an artist that Calvin and Clover have always hoped to work with,” said Lim Teck, Managing Director of Clover Films and executive producer of the film.
