The 2022 MLB Winter Meetings are coming to a close on Wednesday, but there are still plenty of teams looking for trade targets and free agents.

SAN DIEGO — Depending on the action on Monday and Tuesday, Wednesday at the MLB Winter Meetings could be another day filled with contract announcements and moves that could change the look of MLB in 2023 and beyond.

MLB rumour: The signing of Jameson Taillon continues on Super Tuesday for the Cubs

Late Tuesday, MLB insider Ken Rosenthal noted that the Chicago Cubs had been “a push” to touchdown Taillon, a 31-year-old right fielder who made 32 starts with the New York Yankees last season.

Reports later indicated that the deal was in line, potentially giving the Cubs another win Tuesday after landing freeback quarterback Cody Bellinger on a one-year deal.

Taillon has been linked to the New York Mets in several places, but it appears that Mets may now pivot to focus on Japanese pitcher Kodai Senga as the third starter behind Max Scherzer who had recently signed Justin Verlander. If that’s the case, it could bolster a turnover for the Mets who already lost Jacob DeGrom and Tejuan Walker this offseason.

Taillon appears to be the next starting pitcher to come off the plate, which could be a huge plus for Carlos Rodon, who hasn’t signed yet but seems to be gaining more value with each passing day.
