The Kings are candidates who are strongly upset over the Maple Leafs

We’re about a third of the way through the NHL season, so we’re starting to figure out which teams are competing and which ones are up for grabs.

With that being said, there were some amazing results within the first two months. One of those is the Detroit Red Wings sitting in third place in the Atlanta Division with the Florida Panthers sitting in fifth place, something few people would have expected at this point in the season.

Luckily for us, we’ll get to see these two teams face off tonight to understand what works best.

The Red Wings vs. The Panthers are just one of five matchups scheduled for Thursday night, and I’m here to give you my best bets for the event.

Let’s dive into my three favorite plays.

The Maple Leafs have gone 7-0-3 in their last 10 games, but their baseline metrics over this stretch are a little concerning. For example, over that 10-game period, they ranked 30th in CORSI% and 19th in goals expected against. Goalkeeper Matt Murray was the main reason they managed to win games but is now sidelined to rest after 44 saves on Tuesday.

He will be replaced by backup goaltender Ilya Samsanov, opening the door for the Kings offense to do its job. I think they’re a great bet with a chance to take advantage of the areas Toronto has been lacking in recent games.

Panthers-200 vs. Red Wings

Florida panthers

Sure, betting on a -200 favorite is a bit of a cowardly move. If you like the panthers at this spot but don’t want to put -200 puck in, feel free to bet on the triple money streak or the -1.5 puck streak. For me, those bets have burned me a few times, so at this point, I’m just going to juice the -200 and try to add a score to the win column.

Detroit’s track record may be impressive, but the Red Wings have all the makings of a sneaky team. They rank 25th in CORSI%, 18th in goals expected, and 14th in goals expected against.

I fully expect the Panthers, who lead the NHL in expected goals per game this season at 3.39, to be able to beat the Red Wings and secure the win at home.

Stars -180 vs. the Senators

Watch out for the Dallas Stars, who have suddenly become a team’s offensive powerhouse. Over the last 10 games, they have led the NHL in expected goals per 60 minutes while ranking fifth in actual goals per 60 minutes. This is something we haven’t seen in recent years from Dallas, but their offense would be a perfect compliment to their defense and solid goal-direction.

Now, they have a chance to take advantage of a Senators team that has struggled defensively all season. They’re 24th in goals expected against over the last 10 games, which should lead to plenty of scoring opportunities for Dallas tonight.

The game odds are updated periodically and are subject to change.
