Carlos Rodon wants a seven-year deal, and he just might get it. If the start of the winter meeting merchandising market has taught us anything, it’s that we can expect the unexpected.
Now, that doesn’t mean Rodon’s expectations are completely out of line. Rodon is only 29 years old, and he’s coming off one of the best years of his MLB career. However, he also has a complex injury record and is expected to have a high AAV along with his claims on contract length. Even in this market, it’s hard for a player like Rodon to get everything he wants.

Rodon has a multi-year contract, and it would be amazing to see him get a commitment of less than five years. But seven years is a lot for most general managers, especially in this pitching market.
Who should be preferred to sign Carlos Rodon?
The New York Yankees are the presumptive favorites for a pitcher of Carlos Rodon’s stature. Rodon is the best remaining pitcher in the free agent market, and the Yankees need to start throwing depth. It makes a lot of sense.
Brian Cashman and the Yanks front office got off to a slow start, as they had to devote most of their time and resources to bringing Aaron Judge back. Now that the supposed captain is back in the fold, they must improve their roster. It starts with the promotional team.
If not the Yankees, maybe the Texas Rangers or even the Giants, who missed the judge’s presence, could call them.
