The Television Publicity Executive Committee launches the TPEC Awards

Celebrating its 30th anniversary this year, the Television Publicity Executive Committee is getting into the awards business. During the annual “Hacks and Flacks” holiday gala on Wednesday, TPEC leaders announced plans to launch the “TPEC Awards” to honor TV publicity campaigns.

The launch of the TPEC Awards was announced by TPEC Co-Chairs Dustin Smith, Founder of the Smithhouse, and Wendy Zocks, Founder of Wendy Zocks PR.

“Our vision is to honor and recognize publicity teams across the industry who develop and execute strategic, innovative and impactful campaigns to support an impressive range of content in an ever-growing field of networks and services,” said Smith.

The awards will be moderated by a panel of executives and members “who reflect networks, banners, studios, and agencies.”

“TPEC is the only organization connecting each platform and is uniquely positioned to recognize excellence in all software advertising campaigns. We’re really excited to bring this to our members and colleagues to honor the hard work we all do,” Zox added.

Categories will include Campaign of the Year; a prominent campaign for the return of the drama; a landmark campaign for comeback comedies; a pending campaign for a returning unscripted series; a notable campaign for a TV movie, limited series or anthology; a great campaign for a new drama; a notable campaign for a new comedy; a great campaign for the new Unscripted series; and a Lifetime Achievement Award for Publicity for the Program (Ben Halpern Award).

The first awards will span work completed in 2022. Official rules and application guidelines will be announced soon.

The annual ICG Publicists Awards also recognize publicity campaigns in television and film, at an event held during Oscar season. This year, the nominees for the ICG Awards’ Maxwell Weinberg Award for Television Advertising Campaigns are Abbott Elementary (Warner Bros. Television/ABC); “Ghosts” (CBS Studios/CBS); “Prey” (20The tenth Century Studios/Hulu); “RuPaul’s Drag Race: All-Stars” (MTV Entertainment Studios/Paramount+); and “Star Trek: Strange New Worlds” (CBS Studios/Paramount+).

TPEC was established in 1992 as an organization for entertainment public relations managers to gather and collaborate professionally. Members come from sponsored programming at networks, studios, broadcasters, and agencies.
