Heartbreaking last request from Elvis Presley to Anne-Margaret before death | music | entertainment

Elvis Presley first met Ann-Margret in 1963 when they began filming their 1964 film Viva Las Vegas. What started as a fling between two Hollywood stars developed into a passionate love affair. The couple spent every moment they could together while Elvis’ lover, Priscilla Presley, awaited his return to Graceland. Elvis and Ann-Margret’s relationship lasted for just over a year before they broke up – but the story doesn’t end there.

A decade later, in December 1972, Elvis is going through a bitter and spiteful breakup with Priscilla. The couple, who had a daughter together – Lisa Marie Presley – could not be together anymore. After all of Elvis’ years of infidelities and drug use, Priscilla’s affair was the spark that ignited the relationship.

At the same time, Ann-Margret had a residence at the Las Vegas Hilton where she played every evening to a packed crowd. One fateful December evening, Elvis attended her show and watched an old flame — the one that got away — sing her heart out to the fans.

On this night, Anne-Margaret met Elvis for the last time.

Elvis attended a packed, star-studded party where he and Ann-Margret chatted about old times. They reminisced about their days in the group and the hurt they got into before they parted. However, the night did not end there.

Later that night, after Ann-Margret returns to her hotel room, she receives a phone call – it was Elvis. She recalled the emotional event in her memoir, My Story.

Ann-Margret wrote: “Elvis told me how great it was to see me earlier.” She, of course, returned the compliment. She was undoubtedly telling the truth – but she had to be careful at this point. By this point, Ann-Margret was married to Hollywood producer Roger Smith.

Elvis went to tell her how “lonely” he was and that he wanted to see her again. And in the end, he asked Anne-Margret one of the most difficult questions she had ever had to hear.

Anne-Margret wrote: “He asked if he could see me. It was a question I expected from then on.” [that] This afternoon but he was hoping not to really ask.”

Elvis was having a hard time. Not only was he going to lose his wife, but his way of life was going to change drastically. He would have had to separate from his daughter’s care, no doubt with the interventions of the press and curious onlookers. Elvis has been reaching out to Ann-Margret for help.

Heartbreaking as this request was, Anne-Margret only had one answer for it. Sadly, she said to Elvis over her hotel room phone: “You know I can’t.”

Her blunt honesty was what he needed to hear. “I know,” he said, “but I just want you to know that I still feel the same way.”

The pair ended the conversation and broke up emotionally again. But neither of them realized that Elvis’ story was almost over.

That was the last time Ann-Margret saw or spoke to Elvis.

Five years later, on August 16, 1977, the King of Rock and Roll passed away. Elvis was found dead at Graceland in the bathroom, next to where Lisa Marie Presley was sleeping

When Ann-Margret heard the news, she left everything and went to Tennessee. She was the only person from Elvis’ Hollywood career who attended his funeral.

When Anne-Margaret finally met Elvis’ father, Vernon Presley, he gave her a message from King: “He was so proud of you.”
