SNL: ‘Father of the Bride’ reboot with Kieran Culkin

Charles Dickens had a wild night on Saturday Night Live with Martin Short as Ebenezer Scrooge and Steve Martin as the ghost of Christmas who blinds orphans and wreaks havoc on Christmas morning.

In short, like Scrooge, full of Christmas spirit and dancing around his bedroom, open windows and toss a coin to a young boy (Sarah Sherman) to buy him a goose for the holiday. Miser skipped lots, and the coin was taken from Sherman’s eye. Another coin blinded the other eye, and the villagers looked on in horror, exclaiming that the miser was the “blind orphan”.

It got worse, Martin when the ghost tried to show Scrooge how to properly toss a coin, only to injure another villager – but because he’s a ghost, Scrooge was blamed. Tiny Tim, who was calling Scrooge’s innocence, is also struck by a rogue coin, slashing his cane as he falls into the sewers.

In another holiday sketch, Short is a cranky elf named Sprinkles, who punishes Martin’s Santa Claus for responding too easily to the children’s requests. When someone asked for Taylor Swift tickets, Short yelled, “Get a job.”

Later in the show, the two reunite in a spoof of “Father of the Bride” as her daughter Annie gets engaged for the eighth time at the age of 52 in “Father of the Bride 8”. Short reprized his role as Frank’s wedding planner, and Gomez and Kieran Culkin made cameo appearances as the narrator said, “We bet you don’t remember Kieran Culkin” being in the movie.
