Todd McShea mentions Galen Carter’s character concerns, and gets burned

When Todd McShea pointed out personal concerns to Georgia defensive lineman Jalen Carter, his teammates and Dawg Twitter let him have it.

Jalen Carter has just earned unanimous All-American honors and will have the opportunity to help lead Georgia to a second straight national championship in just two weeks.

When his college football contributions are settled, he is expected to enter his name in the 2023 NFL Draft with a chance of becoming a top 5 draft pick.

There’s little question Carter would be a potentially high-profile project given its size and ability to make toys in the trenches. The only wrench in the works may be alleged “personality issues” that Todd McShay flagged on ESPN.

“With Carter, there are some character issues,” McShay said. “Does he get along with everyone? What does he like to deal with in the locker room? Those kinds of issues. I know it’s early in the process, but I warn everyone out there, Carter is going to be a quick name when we talk about some of the more intangible aspects of him.”

“I think with Pete Carroll sitting here in second place, who has a long history of taking guys of questionable character and then developing them and making them work, that would make a lot of sense to me. That would be the big argument. It’s not about his talent, or his size, Or his explosive take-off or his finish as a scramble, it’s about the character and do we want to bring this guy into the building.”

Jalen Carter’s personality issues don’t make sense to his fellow Georgia fans and fans

McShay’s words made people in and around Georgia tilt their heads to the side and say, “Huh?”

There personal issues around Carter are news to his teammates, many reporters, and certainly Georgia fans. They jumped into the defensive line of defense.

McShay takes an L on this one so far. Maybe he knows something that all these people about Carter don’t. Although it is doubtful.

Most likely, the recruiting guy made the basic mistake of believing what he was told by someone with an agenda.
