according to Hollywood ReporterHBO considered producing a fifth season of Westworld not for its premium cable channel (or streaming service) but instead for its fast-track streaming service (FAST i.e. Free ad-supported TVThink Tubi, Pluto TV, or Freevee). The only way to make Westworld such a favor would be for the series to make a massive budget cut for its final episodes, with season 4 costing more than $150 million by the end of it all. However, Westworld is kicking off HBO Max and will be coming to one of these fast streaming services in the not-too-distant future.
“Making Westworld has been one of the major milestones of our careers,” co-creators Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy said in a statement upon the series’ conclusion. “We are so grateful to our extraordinary cast and crew for creating these indelible characters and wonderful worlds. I’ve been privileged to tell these stories about the future of consciousness—both human and beyond—in the short period of time before our AIs stopped us.”
Westworld is the latest hit series to be pulled from HBO Max, but Warner Bros. Discovery for the show (and other programs that were pulled from the service) have come into full swing as they intend to license them to fast-track operators. WBD does not currently have its own streaming services, but is exploring the possibility of launching its own.
