Best NHL bets today (Flames will lose losing streak vs. Sharks)

Raise your hand. It’s been a tough five days with NHL draft picks.

After approaching a double-digit unit increase for the season, a disastrous week caused my record to crash.

The good news is that there is still a lot of hockey to bet on this season, and there are still two weeks left of the 2022 calendar year, so let’s start a new hot streak starting today.

There are five matches to bet on tonight, so let’s dive into our top three bets.

You can find the best odds for each game here.

Hurricanes -120 vs. Penguins

The Hurricanes were statistically the best team in the NHL this season when you look at things like CORSI% and expected goals, but their inability to find the back of the net hurt them. You can do everything right, but if you can’t score, it will be hard to win matches.

Luckily for them, they’re starting to mark that segment, increasing their shooting percentage to 9.57% over the last 10 games. Still not great, but the improvement is obvious.

Meanwhile, the Penguins have seen their offensive production drop slightly, averaging just 3.33 goals expected per game over the last 10 goals. I think this is a match between two teams going in opposite directions.

I’d bet on Hurricanes as a slight advantage on home soil.

+135 planes against the Kraken

Much of the Seattle Kraken’s shortcomings this season have been overcome with sharp shooting. They are second in the NHL in shooting percentage over the course of the season, finding the back of the net at 11.81% shots. That number has started to drop in recent weeks, which has seen them go 5-5 in their last 10 games.

Now, they’re up against a Winnipeg Jets team who’ve not only shot better over the last 10 games, but they’ll also have a huge advantage between the pipes if Conor Hellboyk ends up starting.

You’ll struggle to find a better underdog to bet on today than the Winnipeg Jets.

Firepower -175 against sharks

I’m fully aware that the Calgary Flames have lost five straight games, but I don’t think it’s time to hit the panic button. Analytically, they still play like a top-tier team, ranking 3rd in CORSI% over their last 10 games. Not being able to score on offense and save on defense has killed them, but I would expect a positive dip in those areas.

There are few teams that would give the Flames a better game for them to bounce back than the Sharks, so I will support Calgary to take their losing streak to the end.
