Decommitting Ohio State’s Dylan Raiola changes the entire 2024 cycle

Dylan Raiola’s exit from Ohio State sent shockwaves throughout the recruiting world.

with the best recruit Dylan Raiola From the 2024 cycle removed from Ohio State, this has the potential to change the entire paradigm for its recruiting class.

Per 247 Sportswriter Steve Weltfonga five-star quarterback from Chandler, AZ reopens recruiting.

Raiola has been committed to the Buckeyes since May 9. And he chose Ohio State over the likes of Georgia, Nebraska, Oregon and USC, all programs that Weltfong still believes play a role in Raiola’s five-star commitment. Keep in mind, his father, Dominic, was an All-American at UNL…

Here’s what Rimington Trophy winner and father of the Nebraska legend had to say about it.

“We have a lot of respect for Coach’s Day and the Ohio State program,” Dominic Raiola told 247Sports. “Everything is back on the table. His process is almost like a reboot. He’s not locked down on anyone.”

As for the news of Raiola’s termination of commitment from Ohio State, which would come weeks before the Buckeyes’ College Football Playoff, it sure came as a surprise to everyone involved.

What does Ohio State’s Dylan Raiola rescind commitment mean to anyone else?

While strong programs like Georgia and Oregon certainly have a great chance of making it to Raiola’s 2024 commitment, reopening the quarterback’s appointment questions Nebraska and USC’s chances in a big way. Given that the Cornhuskers are now led by Matt Rule, one would expect Nebraska to be on the rise by the time Raiola was a theoretical early catcher.

As far as USC is concerned, Raiola won’t be playing for the Trojans when 2022 Heisman Trophy winner Caleb Williams is still on campus. Williams is projected to be the #1 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft once he becomes eligible. Raiola will compete to play with the likes of 2023 Division One draftee Malachy Nelson and Miller Moss if he moves to the Trojans soon.

The weird part about this is that Ohio State has been a professional football factory for quarterbacks since Ryan Day came to Columbus. Even though they haven’t won a College Football Playoff game since his arrival, Ohio State is one of the best programs in the country, and certainly one that the nation’s top wide receiver talent is naturally attracted to. Raiola’s uncommitment is rather strange.

No college football program earns more than Nebraska because of Raiola’s exit from Ohio State.
