Saturday Night Live’s powerful Cecily breaks silence in mid-season departure

Although many thought Cecily Strong would be one of the many actors who wouldn’t return Saturday Night Live After the end of season 47, the comedian shocked the world when she returned for the comedy’s 48th season. Upon her return for season 48, Strong broke the record for the longest-running actress ever appointed to honor Studio 8H. Fast forward to December 17th and the final episode before the show’s holiday break, and Strong revealed that she’s leaving the show permanently. Now, she has released a statement regarding her decision to leave 30 Rock.

“My heart is bursting,” Strong said in a lengthy Instagram post. “I have a ton of huge life changing love to unpack, so that’s all I can say tonight.” “Ten and a half years ago, I got my dream job. On my first actual working day I tried to be super cool and make it look like I knew what I was doing and I was meant to be there.”

Then Strong remembered a humorous story in which she tried to leave SNL offices, but they could not find a way out of the building.

“I left that night around 11 after everyone had said goodbye. I got stuck walking around the building because none of the elevators went to the first floor and I was trying really hard to avoid having to go back upstairs to ask for help because ‘I already said goodbye,'” she continued. “I think I went to every floor trying to see if there was another way out that I missed. Maybe you went to the stairwell. I ended up going back upstairs and my great friend Colin Jost helped me out and took me to the secret night elevator. I felt as impossible to leave that night as it is now.”

SNL mainstay then thanked Jost for his friendship over her decade on the show.

My great friend Colin Jost ended up helping me again, this time by having Elvis sing to me (Thank you Austin Butler, you are so kind and generous Dreamboat). I’m sorry I was a little quiet about it in public. I didn’t want the extra pressure on something that is already sentimental to me,” concluded Strong. “And I am so grateful to have had these past six wonderful performances to help me relax and get to know and laugh and maybe hug Molly and Marcelo and Devon and Michael overly who I think are not only brilliantly funny but really wonderful human beings. I am ready to go, but I will always know that home is here. I have I have spent the time of my life working with the greatest people on earth.”
