Dark Crisis on Infinite Earths explained

After the death of the Justice League and the invasion of Pariah’s dark army, the heroes of the DC Universe have been in a dark place, and they’ve taken more losses for every victory. Things finally turned around in Dark Crisis on Infinite Earths #6, but then the Darkness found a new host in Deathstroke. The final showdown took place in Dark Crisis on Infinite Earths #7, leaving certain heroes in very new places and heralding a new dawn for DC moving forward, and here’s everything that happened. Spoilers abound for this issue, so if you haven’t read it yet, you’ve been warned.

Darkness has now taken root in Deathstroke, but after a battle between Black Adam and Deathstroke that sees Adam bestow his power on the other heroes, he is able to separate Slide from it. He’s found a new host in Nightwing, but Nightwing is able to harness him and use him as a weapon, helping to take down Deathstroke and put the darkness to rest…for now, at least.

Many of the heroes who were lost have returned and been put back to their rightful places, although Green Arrow is still missing. Slade is still alive but his body was ravaged by darkness, and this in effect stripped him of the serum that granted him his powers. This means that he is in constant pain, and the league puts him into a machine that tries to stop him, but can be deactivated by anyone.

The Great Darkness is quiet for the time being, and Zatanna tells everyone that the Outcast used a small part of his power. The heroes are busy helping clean up the damage and rebuild, and Black Adam shares an exchange with Superman before leaving the league and returning to Kahndaq.

As for Nightwing, he has a conversation with Bruce in which the Dark Knight reveals the Justice League doesn’t exist, telling Nightwing that after everything they’ve been through in the League they felt they needed time to rethink the team, not just the new members. Batman says, “It needs to find a new mission. A new legacy. But if anyone’s going to lead us all into the future…it’s going to be you.”

Nightwing says he’ll think about it, but as they head towards a crime in progress, he tells Batman “But let’s talk on the way… I’ve got some ideas.”

There’s also a finale that poses another major threat, as we know Amanda Waller meets the Council of Light. She tells them they need to act, because the heroes have now beaten everything, to death, and that’s a step too far. She says that if they can imprison the villains, they can do the same with the heroes, and then the Council gives her full power to completely eradicate metahumans from the world. Then we see her team assembled to help do it, which includes Peacemaker, Peacewrecker, a cyborg-style figure, and another mysterious figure.
