Marvel confirms Planet of the Apes creative team for 2023 Comic

Back in the summer, Marvel Comics confirmed that they would be returning to Planet of the Apes after decades and regained the franchise license many years later. At the time, the only thing that was confirmed was that a new series was planned for early 2023, with some teaser artwork from Salvador La Roca, but now the creative team is confirmed for the title and Marvel has recruited some big hitters. In a new social media post, Marvel revealed that writer David F. Walker is set to write the new series that will feature artist Dave Wachter on in-house art. The series will arrive next year, and will start in April of 2023.

For those unfamiliar with Walker’s work, he’s co-created fan-favorite comics including ComicBook.com’s nominated Bitter Root series, as well as hit Marvel titles. Strongman and Iron Fist, Nighthawk, Luke CageAnd the The Avengers occupied. Worked in DC on titles including Cyborg and teamed up with Brian Michael Bendis to hit a new character Naomi. Importantly, Walker has prior experience with Planet of the Apes a series. for BOOM! Studios Walker previously wrote the crossover event Tarzan on the Planet of the Apes and the mini series Planet of the Apes: Ursus, following the classic character from the original films. as he wrote War for the Planet of the Apes Tie-in comic, between the events of 2014 Dawn of the Planet of the Apes and 2017 war.

Dave Wachter worked as an artist for several publishing houses, but with Marvel he was responsible for the interiors X-Men: Legends And the Iron Fist: Heart of the Dragon. He also has a lot of experience with Marvel’s other licensed titles, penciling Star Wars: The Supreme Republic – Trail of Shadows And the Aliens: After. For IDW, Wachter previously worked on Godzilla Addresses as well Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

Marvel first published the Planet of the Apes stories in the 1970s with their self-titled series, followed Adventures on the Planet of the Apes-Full color adaptations of some icons Planet of the Apes Movies. A comprehensive collection of that series is scheduled for 2023 as well.
