Learning how to insert icons into any application on Windows is extremely useful for anyone who does a lot of typing. Once upon a time, to insert an icon in Windows applications such as MS Word, you had to go to the toolbar, then the insert menu and then find your icon. It was a tedious and time-consuming process, especially for regular symbols like en or em dashes, which appear a lot in typing, but many keyboards destined for Windows don’t have a dedicated shortcut for them.
Fortunately, there is a much faster, albeit little-known, way to get to the icons, whether you’re looking for an em-dash tag, a foreign currency sign, or a bullet point. With a single keyboard shortcut, you’ll be able to access a list of symbols that also has a memory function, so locating all the symbols you use most frequently will be faster.
