‘Petrified’ Roger Moore took booze and valium on the set of James Bond-vandalized by Monks | Movies | entertainment

To calm his nerves during these scenes, Moore would take a little Valium and drink a tall glass of beer to help him through the close-ups, when filming the climbing scenes high up on the rock face.

Heights weren’t the only challenge filming in Greece faced, as Eastern Orthodox monks living in the monastery at the top of the Meteora rock formation caused the production a terrible inconvenience.

The story goes that the holy men did not approve of the violence associated with the James Bond films, but a trial in the Greek Supreme Court ruled that the religious order owned only the interiors, while the exteriors and surrounding landscape belonged to the government.

Apparently, Moore tried to smooth things over by telling them he was a saint, having played The Saint before Bond in the TV series of the same name.
