Since returning to WWE NXT after suffering an injury, The Don Tony D’Angelo has set his sights on the NXT North American Championship, and in order to become champion he has to take on the champion, who is currently named Wes Lee. Lee isn’t about to let that title go without a fight of course, and tonight he proved that despite taking an absurd amount of damage to his leg and knee, he was able to keep Tony D’Angelo at bay, even though he did. Getting a little help from NXT’s recent comeback. This would be Dijak, who decided to take D’Angelo’s ally Stacks during the match, giving Lee the space he needed to get the win.
D’Angelo looked to make a statement early on and threw Lee towards the other side of the ring twice in a row, and while Lee got a few hits, D’Angelo hit right back and then slammed Lee with a German suplex. D’Angelo went for another Suplex but landed on his feet, then hit Lee with a kick and sent D’Angelo into the ropes. Lee went straight at The Don in the corner, hitting hard blows to the chest and stomach, and D’Angelo took a minute to walk around the ring and regroup.

D’Angelo then went for Lee’s leg twice in a row but missed both times, and Lee then took D’Angelo to the knee with the hold. D’Angelo then lifted Lee up and broke his fist, slamming into Lee’s body with uppercuts and attacking him with his shoulder to damage his ribs. D’Angelo then went for a kick but Lee dodged and hit Don’s leg and hit Shooting Star but D’Angelo got out of the ring before he could cover. Then Lee dived outside and knocked D’Angelo to the ground.
D’Angelo would put Lee back in the ring and keep the momentum going, but eventually The Don took advantage of his opportunity and found a weak spot in Lee’s leg. D’Angelo constantly attacked Lee’s leg and locked it into a fist which put a lot of pressure on Lee’s knee. D’Angelo put as much force on the knee as he could, and though Lee finally managed to break his hold, D’Angelo picked him up and lowered him twice onto his injured leg and knee, causing him to roll to the outside.
D’Angelo then lifted Lee and slammed him knee-first on the announcing table, with Lee visibly hurting. He spun the champion into the ring and went for the pin, but Lee knocked out. Lee was then able to counter D’Angelo and hit a DDT, buying him some time to recover. Lee went to D’Angelo’s leg with kicks and then looked to body-slam with jabs, then shoulder tackles put the challenger to the mat.
Lee dropped Lee to his knee and then to the corner and kept the punches flying, then Lee climbed to the top only to be hit hard by D’Angelo. D’Angelo then got on top but Dijak then grabbed Stacks and pulled him backstage, that distracted The Don enough to allow me to kick D’Angelo in the head and hit another kick to the side of the face and get the pin and pin. victory.
