Kevin Owens reflects on his WrestleMania 38 match with Steve Austin

Kevin Owens pulled “Stone Cold” Steve Austin out of retirement and fought “The Texas Rattlesnake” in an impromptu No Holds Barred Match at WrestleMania 38 this past April. Austin looked great in his first game since 2003, going nearly 14 minutes before knocking out Owens with a Stone Cold Stunner. Ahead of his massive tag team match with John Cena on SmackDown this week, Owens reflected on the match and how the WWE legend greeted it backstage.

“I still don’t have a full understanding of how this happened,” Owens said. New York Post this week. “All I know is that many people have told me, from Steve to Vince McMahon to Bruce Pritchard, that no one else but you — I mean me — could have been with Steve. I’m not sure who suggested it, who asked for it or how it happened. “I’ll find out one day. But the point is, it’s very flattering for me that all three of them thought I was the best choice. There’s no higher compliment than that for me. Nothing better than that. I said it the day after the game: everything comes down from here “.

Owens and Cena were booked to take on Roman Reigns and Sami Zayn, who had a great 2022 becoming the “Honorary Uce” of Bloodline. And while their feuds have played out on television for years, Owens had nothing but good things to say about Sami in the interview.

“He’s been an amazing performer for the 22 years I’ve known him, and it’s great to see people finally noticing that and appreciating it as much as they should,” Owens said. “He’s been getting the credit he deserves for so long. Our careers at this point, there’s no denying they’ll forever bond and bond with each other. We’ll always come back to each other in one way or another, whether it’s fighting or teaming up. It’s been a joy to see.” Things evolve for him.”

As for Austin, it has been heavily rumored that the six-time WWE Champion ius will take part in WrestleMania 39 this April in Los Angeles. No word yet on who his opponent might be, but let us know who you think should be wrestling in the comments!
