Best NBA Bets Today (Short-Handed Magic Faded, Along with Suns Play Total at 76ers-Pelicans)

Nine games are on the books tonight in Etihad on Friday night, as teams look to clinch one last victory before the new year.

The Orlando Magic and Detroit Pistons deal with important shortstops in their confrontations against the Washington Wizards and Chicago Bulls respectively as a result of their brawl Wednesday night in Detroit.

Elsewhere, the highest-ranked team in the Western Conference, the New Orleans Pelicans host the Philadelphia 76ers as a favored home rival in New Orleans, looking to extend their winning streak to five in a row. The Bills have the most home wins in the West with the Dallas Mavericks at 15 this year, while the 76ers are just 6-8 from home.

Here are my best NBA bets for today’s nine-game roster, along with the best odds and promotions available in your state.

Wizards -4.5 in Magic

The Magic falls short tonight after the league’s announced suspension of eight, yes eight players stems from Wednesday’s incident in Detroit.

While the suspensions will be staggered, the Magic is still without Moe Wagner, Jonathan Isaac, Chuma Okeke, and Jalen Suggs tonight, as well as no Cole Anthony, Mo Bamba, Wendell Carter Jr, RJ Hampton, and Garry Harris.

Bettors haven’t been able to trust Washington all year on the road, only 5-14 straight this season, but they’ve been decent for a team that’s bad in out coverage at 8-9-2 ATS. Did I mention they’ve also won four of their last five games since losing 10 straight?

With that streak moving, I’ll take the Wizards to cover 4.5 points on the road against a Magic team who’ve been playing great, but now find themselves in a big bind.

Sun +2 in the Raptors

The Suns played terribly in a blowout loss on the road in their final game Wednesday night against Washington, but they’ve played the game much better before with a dominant 125-108 win on the road against the Memphis Grizzlies. In that game, the Suns’ defensive presence finally came into play, and the offense was balanced by eight different players in double figures.

Toronto, meanwhile, is on a winning streak at home against the Grizzlies, and has lost two straight home games.

Through wrappersPhoenix has won five consecutive ATS games played in one day rest, and is 5-3-0 this year as an underdog with an ATS +/- of +1.9.

The birds of prey seem lost. In December, Toronto had the fifth-worst net rating in the league; ahead only of countries that feed at the bottom of the list like Charlotte, San Antonio, Houston, and Detroit.

Even with all the injuries piling up for Phoenix, they loved covering the shortstop away from home.

76ers vs. Pelicans over 228.5

Both teams were great defensively in December, but I’ll be on the side in New Orleans for a few different reasons.

Directions support the play. For Philadelphia, they’ve gone 8-3 in their last 11 games, 4-0 in their last four games on the road, and 5-1 in their last six after losing streak (via wrappers). Pelican Trends supports much more than that. They have trailed 6-1 in their last seven, 5-1 in their last six at home, and 6-0 in their last six after losing ATS.

New Orleans also boasts of having the sixth-best rated offensive home run in the NBA in the month of December, while Philadelphia comes in at seventh-ranked at home. The 76ers’ traditionally reliable defense takes a big back seat away from Philly, which ranked 23rd in the NBA in defensive rankings in December.

I’ll be side by side with the points in the league’s best fight on the board.
