Diego Luna Andor explains the importance of Cassian’s role models

AndorThe first season was released this year and follows Cassian Andor (Diego Luna) prior to the events of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. The show is set to continue for another season, and there’s still a lot to learn about the character despite the fact that his fate has already been decided. Recently, Luna had an in-depth conversation with collider In honor of his Critics Choice nomination, he spoke about his portrayal of the character for the series and explained why it was important to “get everything” about Cassian. Of course, that includes all the characters that influenced him prior to the events Rogue One.

“I think in terms of the context of the character, I was very much there. I think [Tony Gilroy’s] The story is something that connects easily with what I have in mind. But it was more about the characters he met on the trip that I liked what Tony had to say. The characters he met are Luthen [Stellan Skarsgård]Keno [Andy Serkis]Relationship with acquaintances [Fiona Shaw] – This is something very central to Cassian’s understanding. For me, it wasn’t like when I was preparing for it Rogue One. I had to create my own backstory. The backstory that nobody cares about. He was just mine in terms of, I didn’t have to get in there with any other actor. My character was coming from somewhere else, you know? He has this accent that no one else shares, and he’s clearly left it all behind. So, it was just the job that you do as an actor, that you have to understand why you make the choices that you make and create a back story for yourself.”

Luna continued, “But with Tony, it’s been interesting to discover all these role models of Cassian and how much sacrifice is made around the rebellion. It’s very interesting to see so many characters who are willing to leave everything behind for a cause they believe in. It’s a beautiful story that reminds us of what we’re capable of, basically.” And through these characters I was like, ‘Oh my God, this is so rich and so relatable and so real, even though we’re in this galaxy far, far away. These characters feel so close to the world that you and I live in.'”
