The origin of blood reveals a surprising connection between Geralt and Ciri

With The Witcher: Blood Origin set 1,200 years in the past of the main Witcher series, there had to be some unexpected limitations to the current timeline, and there really was. In addition to Jaskier’s involvement, some big revelations have been made in the prototype of the Witcher story, one such revelation being the surprising relationship between Geralt and Ciri thanks to the one between Eile and Fjall. Upcoming spoilers for The Witcher: Blood Origin, so if you haven’t finished the series yet, you’ve been warned.

In the last episode, we learned that Ael was pregnant and had a child, Phygal. Fajal ended up undergoing a torture process to become the prototype Witcher that would lead to Grasses’ trial and later Witchers like Geralt down the line. Eile and Fjall were intimate after that operation, imbuing their child with both sets of genes.

Ethelin delivers her prophecy by touching Isle’s stomach, teasing how it leads to Ciri and the Elder Blood it contains. This also ties into the show’s title, Blood Origin, and thus our interesting relationship, as Ciri and Geralt are both descendants of the same bloodline. While this wouldn’t necessarily make them direct relatives, it could make them distant relatives, meaning they share a lot of the same monster DNA and some of the same genes.

The Grasses experience will continue to evolve and iterate over time, and in later versions, those who handle the process are sterile and move on. That wasn’t the case with Fjall though, so the process and effects aren’t what they’ll become in the end.

It will also be interesting to see if this is followed up into season 3 of The Witcher, as this was unknown by Geralt or Ciri when we stopped working with them in season 2. This could be a major plot point, or it could be something interesting. for consideration as fans catch up on their journey, but either way, we’ll have to wait and see. You can find the official description below.
