Mavericks predictions and predictions against the Spurs for Saturday, December 31st

The Dallas Mavericks snapped a five-game winning streak that pushed them into sixth place in the Western Conference going into Saturday’s game against the San Antonio Spurs.

The Spurs and Mavs both benefited from playing the New York Knicks this week, as the Spurs came away winning against them on Thursday.

Luka Doncic is playing at a very high level right now, hitting a 60-point triple-double against the Knicks, and then followed that up with a career-high triple-double in the 15-point win over the Houston Rockets.

It will be tough cover for the Spurs, who have the worst defensive rating in the NBA, but the Mavs have also lost a few key players.

Dorian Vinnie Smith, Josh Green and Maxi Kleber will feature in this game, while Spurs drop winger Devin Vassell (doubtful).

The Mavericks haven’t been great as roadrunners this season, but can they find a way to cover against the lowly Spurs?

Mavericks vs Spurs prediction and selection

This is the 11th time this season that the Mavericks have been favored on the road, and they’ve only gone 3-7 against the odds so far at this venue.

Dallas hasn’t been great away from home, winning just five out of 16 games on the road this season.

It’s hard to build a case for San Antonio, because the team ranks 30th in the net rating, 30th in the defensive rating, and 27th in the offensive rating, but the Spurs prevailed just like the home dogs against the Knicks this week.

San Antonio has gone 8-8 against the difference as a home underdog, and should be able to keep things relatively close against a shorthanded Dallas team with arguably best defender in Vinnie Smith.

Dallas is by far the better team, but has really struggled against the spread this season. That might be too few points to give the Spurs at home.
