By playing in the Sugar Bowl, Bryce Young has bet on himself, potentially improving his NFL Draft stock with an amazing performance.
Bryce Young completed 15 of 21 passes for 321 yards and had five total touchdowns on Saturday against Kansas State in the Sugar Bowl. Young is in a battle with Ohio State quarterback C.J. Stroud to be the best player in his position. Given the value of QBs in the NFL, it wouldn’t be surprising to see Young or Stroud – whoever emerges victorious in that battle through Pro Days and the NFL Combine – as the #1 overall pick. As of right now, that pick belongs to the Houston Texans.
With his performance against Kansas State, Young is #1 in our power ratings at the moment. Had he not played, that slot would have belonged to CJ Stroud, thanks to his preferred measurements compared to Young’s.
Young is under 6ft and needs to add some weight to his body. Because of this, some teams may be concerned about his stamina. Meanwhile, you’ll have a little thicker and 6-3.
NFL Draft QB Potential Power Ratings: Bryce Young is No. 1
Barring anything unexpected, Young will come out of his college football career as the No. 1 quarterback prospect available in the 2023 NFL Draft. That could change throughout the draft process, as he and CJ Stroud were neck and neck before the Sugar Bowl .
Stroud would have his chance in the College Football Playoff, but he looked somewhat pedestrian in his last game against the Michigan Wolverines.
At the moment, Young can be considered from the Houston Texans. But that could easily change in the coming months.
NFL draft QB potential power ratings: CJ Stroud, Ohio State
CJ Stroud has arguably the best throwing accuracy out of the entire middle class. Stroud is a classic pocket passer-by, so he’s not as much of a threat on the ground as Young. After beating Queen Ewers in his sophomore season, Stroud would finish his career at Ohio State as a two-time Heisman finalist. He is a Buckeyes legend, and deserves to be treated as such.
ESPN’s Matt Miller He praised Stroud’s accuracy as his selling point: “Accuracy on all levels of the field is Stroud’s signature trait. His ability to drop the ball into space and give receivers space to operate is best in the draft class.”
Stroud will have to impress at Pro Day and the NFL Combine in order to jump-start Bryce Young, as he is not eligible for the Senior Bowl or Shrine Bowl.
