CalWorks Benefits 2023: Do CalWORKs Pay the Rent?

Mraw and more we Families find themselves needing to use federal or state government programs to try to provide for their families and make sure that not only is there food on the table, but there is a roof over their heads.

One of these programs is CalWORKs Homeless Assistance (HA) Program Created to help families under the program ensure they can pay for or maintain permanent housing.

They are also there to provide emergency shelter should a family find themselves in a situation of homelessness for any reason.

It can provide temporary shelter for up to 16 days, and it can also help make payments on housing, including security deposits or the previous month’s rent that you may have missed.

What Kind of Help Does CalWORKs Homeless Assistance (HA) Program Provide?

There are two types of homelessness assistance offered by the program. There is a temporary HA, which provides 16 days of shelter, including hotel or motel costs ($85 per day for a family of four or less + $15 for each additional family member, up to a maximum of $145 per day)

There is also a permanent HA that helps secure housing and protects residents from eviction. This can save a security deposit, the last month’s rent or two months’ rent to prevent eviction.

Who is Eligible for the CalWORKs Homeless Assistance (HA) Program?

This assistance is available to those who are already recipients of CalWORKs or those who qualify and have already applied to become a recipient of CalWORKs and are currently experiencing homelessness or are at risk of homelessness in the very near future.

Applications for assistance can be submitted on the websites of the county welfare offices as it is a program that runs at the county level, rather than at the state or federal level like many other major programs.
