Can You Use Old Watch Bands on Apple Watch SE 2?

Since 2015, Apple has released watches in different sizes. Can you use old watch bands on your Apple Watch SE 2? Let’s decode!

Since the original Apple Watch, the company has released models in six different sizes (excluding the 49mm Apple Watch Ultra variant). You have 38mm, 40mm, 41mm, 42mm, 44mm and 45mm models. In terms of band compatibility, you should know two sets of sizes. The first includes 38mm, 40mm, and 41mm watches, while the second has 42mm, 44mm, and 45mm watches.

As long as the older watch band and Apple Watch SE 2 belong to the same size group, the band will be compatible. So if you have a 41mm band and a 40mm Apple Watch SE 2, you can pair them just fine. However, if you choose a 42mm band on the 40mm Apple Watch SE 2, it will be a mismatch. It is expected that the 49mm bands of the Apple Watch Ultra are not compatible with the Apple Watch SE 2, regardless of which size you choose.

The SE 2 model loses some non-essential features, such as AOD, fast charging, and ECG. It's the perfect model for those on a budget.

The Apple Watch SE 2 is missing some non-essential features that are available on higher-end models, such as an always-on display, fast charging, and an ECG. But it’s still the perfect wearable for those on a budget.

Being able to use old bands on the Apple Watch SE 2 is definitely a welcome match. That way, if you have a rare or discontinued Apple Watch band, you can still use it with your new watch when you upgrade — assuming they’re both in the same size group. Likewise, if you’ve already invested in a wide variety of different straps to match the different styles and colors of the clothes you wear, you don’t need to rebuild the collection from scratch every time you buy a new Apple Watch.
